it's already been a month!?

yesterday was my one month anniversary at Deloitte.

it has flown by! coming in at the kick-off busy season has been a whirlwind, but I am learning very quickly & I like that part of it. being thrown into everything forces you to learn what you need to do & fast.

I have gotten to be pretty good friends with the other tax consultant new hires, we are always together at the office so we might as well become besties.

it is busy season, and therefore I have zerooo free time. it kind of sucks, but that's public accounting for you.

I have worked every Saturday since I started, & today I worked my first Sunday.

I did get a chance this week to hang out with some friends from school & to go to dinner with a girl from work and her friends. so I guess that would be a pretty social week.

in total I worked 66 hours this week...which really doesn't seem like a lot when I'm scheduled for 95 in a few weeks. I'm not sure where I'm going to pull those extra 29 hours.

one of the benefits of work for a big 4 accounting firm is that they pretty much provide you with all your food because you're at the office all the time.

I'm pretty sure I paid for one meal this week. all the new hires are wanting to see how long we can go before we have to go buy groceries.

I actually have a little bit of free time today!

tomorrow I am going on a recruiting trip to Lubbock for the firm. I'm so excited to be going back to Lubbock, this will be my first time back since I graduated in December 2010.

we're coming back Tuesday morning at 7:50am, so it's a real quick trip. but I'm still looking forward to getting to go and stay at the Overton, which had just been built when I graduated.

so today I need to do a ton of laundry and get packed up for my trip!

my short & sweet recap of week 1.

so my first week of work was amazing!

I had so much fun at training. the first two days were a little boring, but going to Houston for days 3&4 was such a fun adventure!

I have always been told that the big 4 accounting firms spoil you, but now I know how true that is. well, at least for Deloitte.

our hotel was beautiful, we were served food & drinks every 10 minutes at training (this job may be bad news for my figure!) & everything was taken care of for you.

today I will have to figure out how to report all my expenses haha.

tomorrow I leave to go to Deloitte U for the national new hire training.

I'm pretty excited because I've heard this place is amazing.

all anyone ever talks about is how great the food is & then how great the work out facilities are. in that order.

apparently you are guaranteed to gain 5 lbs for each week you stay out there, they call it the "DU 5"...I'll be there for 2 weeks. that's 10 lbs for all you non accountants out there. (5 lbs per week * 2 weeks = 10 lbs.)

I've got lots of errands to run & packing to do & becker lectures to get through before I leave tomorrow, so I have to run.

tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life...ish

tomorrow is my first day of work. it's the day I start my career.

I'm extremely nervous, excited, anxious & scared and I don't even know what I am going to wear yet!! (shocker, right?)

tomorrow I will be waking up ~~bright~~ dark & early to get ready, leave the house, & go get on the train to go into downtown.

then, after work on Wednesday, I am flying to Houston for training.

I have never been to downtown Houston, so I'm a little scared. shoot, I've never even traveled by myself.

until then, I am distracting myself by watching the bachelor.

I actually hate this show & think it's really stupid, but it's a great distraction.

I'm definitely rooting for my accountant sister, Jennifer, as of right now.

& I do NOT like this Courtney girl at all! she is not very nice.

this is also my first post of 2012!
for NYE I went out with a few friends & ended up meeting up with more friends in Uptown.
I went into it thinking it was going to be absolutely terrible, but I actually had the perfect night!
(I'd give you the details, but I don't kiss & tell hehe.)
I hope that everyone had as fun of a NYE & New Years Day as I did!

I should probably start laying out my outfits for the week.

if you think about it tomorrow, say a little prayer for me.

a year ago today, i graduated from Texas Tech.

a year ago tomorrow i moved from Lubbock to Dallas.

& yesterday i graduated with my Masters degree from SMU.

the whole graduation cap thing is NOT my best look.
sorry about that.

lauren & i were sitting directly behind each other & got to entertain each other the whole ceremony.

fortunately, we were sitting around some hilarious MBA's who kept us laughing the whole time!

congratulations to all my awesome MSA's & MBA's who graduated yesterday!

preface: for those of you who are unaware, i am a bit of a hippie.

i guess that's what you get, an art teacher mother + an actuary father = a hippie, accountant daughter??

who knows. but i do have a bit of a tree-hugger side.

with that being said...

my latest obsession this season: brightly twisted.

specifically their beautiful, hand-dyed scarves.

my three brightly twisted scarves, 2 viscose & 1 gauze.
absolutely gorgeous.

how do you wear these beautiful works of art?
i like to wear them with a solid color shirt, i like to wear the one on the bottom left as a wrap/shawl with a white shirt, it also pairs stunningly with my cognac riding boots & chestnut uggs. the top right is great with my blacks & pinks. the bottom right is my newest. i love the blues (when i saw the tiffany blue in the scarf, i knew i had to buy it!).
i have worn them with prints, if it doesn't look absolutely horrendous.

might i add:
asking me to pick my favorite brightly twisted scarf, would be like asking me to pick my favorite child.

one beginnings end.

my last semester of graduate school was such a whirlwind, but it was definitely the perfect semester to end my collegiate career.
on Saturday (god-willing) I will graduate with my master's degree in accounting from the SMU Cox School of Business.
so much has happened over this last year, it's been impossible not to reflect back on it all recently.
when I recall where I was this time last year, about to graduate from Texas Tech, move to Dallas & start grad school, it's absolutely incredible to see where I am now.

where am I now?

I have a job lined up to start January 3rd with a big 4 accounting firm (I received offers from both of the 2 big 4 firms I interviewed with).
I'm about to start the long, tiring journey that is studying for & taking the CPA exam (just when you think you're done with exams, you aren't).
throughout this semester I have met some awesome people who have become amazing friends, whom I will have the pleasure of working with when they come to the firm in the Fall!

during the course of 2011, I've also gained life knowledge that has helped me continue to grow into the woman I'm becoming.
I learned to never limit yourself for another person, & never change yourself for another person. this sounds like the same thing, but to me they hold two separate meanings.
I've learned that I really can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I've said for 4 years now that I wanted to go to SMU to get my masters degree & now, on Saturday, I will have accomplished my goal.

as I prepare to shut the door on my time as a student at SMU, I have mixed emotions: excited & proud of myself to be starting a new chapter of my life in January, but I'm also sad to be leaving my friends.
I guess it's like that cliche quote "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." This is what I'm telling myself to do, be happy because you just had one heck of an amazing year.

hello world!

On today, the first day of November, 2011, I am facing probably the most pivotal time period in my 23 years, thus far. I will soon be graduating with my Master's degree and starting my "big-girl" job in January. Obviously, as a young woman starting my life's journey into the workforce and "real life" I am bound to have some adventures and rather entertaining experiences, which I hope to get to share with you here. Additionally, I hope to share what got me to where I am and where I'm going: the clothes, purses, shoes, make-up, all that great girly stuff!

So sit back and relax because it's about to be a beautiful & exciting ride...I hope.
